Searching Cases Through MCRO
Minnesota Court Records Online is the state's free public case search system. Find it at publicaccess.courts.state.mn.us. Search Wabasha County cases by a person's name, case number, or citation number. No registration or fee is required for basic searches.
Results show the parties named in the case, the charges filed, the current case status, and any upcoming court dates. For cases filed on or after July 1, 2015, court documents can often be viewed and downloaded directly from MCRO for free. Older cases appear in MCRO with basic information, but documents must be requested from the courthouse directly.
The court calendar updates fresh at 7:00 AM each morning and refreshes hourly. For the most current hearing times, check MCRO on the day of the scheduled appearance. A public access terminal at the Wabasha courthouse lets you run MCRO searches without using your own device. Court staff are available to help with the search process or copy requests during business hours.
Note: Juvenile records, expunged cases, and sealed files are not accessible through public MCRO searches.
How to Get Copies

Certified copies cost $14 per document. You may need them for legal proceedings or formal verification. Request them in person at 848 17th St E, by written mail request, or through the state's online copy request portal at mncourts.gov/help-topics/copy-request.
Mail requests need the defendant's full name, case number if known, year filed, and a description of the specific documents required. Include payment for certified copies. The fee schedule is at mncourts.gov/help-topics/court-fees/district-court-fees.
Wabasha County Sheriff and County Resources
The Wabasha County Sheriff's Office handles law enforcement for the county. County government information and department contacts can be found at co.wabasha.mn.us and wabashacounty.org. The sheriff processes arrests and maintains booking records that are separate from the court's case files.
Arrests by the sheriff or local police departments become court records once charges are filed with the District Court. At that point, the information is accessible through MCRO as a public court record. Jail or booking information at the sheriff's level is maintained separately and must be requested directly from the sheriff's office.
BCA Criminal History Records
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension maintains statewide criminal history data separate from local court records. A BCA search costs $8 per person and returns felony and gross misdemeanor convictions from all Minnesota counties for the past 15 years. Access the search at dps.mn.gov/divisions/bca.
If you only need Wabasha County case details, MCRO is the right tool. If you want to check whether someone has convictions in other counties across Minnesota, a BCA search covers the whole state. The two systems complement each other and serve different information needs.
Expungement in Wabasha County
Minnesota provides two routes to expunge criminal records. Automatic expungement under Minn. Stat. 609A.015 applies to qualifying low-level offenses after a waiting period, with no action required from the person with the record. Petition-based expungement under Chapter 609A requires filing a petition with the Wabasha County District Court, giving notice to the agencies that have the record, and attending a hearing.
A successful expungement seals the record. It no longer shows up in public MCRO searches, and most government databases will not have access to it. Learn more about the process and eligibility at mncourts.gov/help-topics/criminal-expungement. Legal aid in the region may help low-income individuals with petitions at little or no cost.
Minnesota Government Data Practices Act
Under Minn. Stat. Chapter 13, criminal court records in Minnesota are classified as public data. Anyone can ask to see Wabasha County criminal court records without giving a reason. The court must supply the records or provide a legal explanation for any restriction. This is the law for every court in the state, including Wabasha County.
Some records are restricted: juvenile cases, certain victim information, expunged files, and active investigation data are not public. Outside of these exceptions, Wabasha County court records are open. You can search MCRO yourself or visit the courthouse window. Either way works for accessing public case information.
